In my early childhood, fast food was not a major part of my
life, it was more of a casual going out because my mom didn’t feel like cooking
that night or she had to work late and my dad was on deployment. When I was
younger I never ate hamburgers, well back then I called them “hambugers”, but
aside from that I was addicted to chicken. It didn’t matter where it was from
it could be chicken nuggets or even a chicken sandwich. Regardless I wasn’t the
biggest fan of fast food as a child, what I was more interested in was the play
pins and all the toys that would come with the meals, which sometimes depicted
what type of meal I was going to get. An example of this for me was when the
Pokémon movie came out in theaters, burger king released a limited series, I
ate there almost every day until I finally got all the pieces of the set, I was
a huge fan when I was about six, so of course my mom wanted to get me the set.
Another thing that really played a big role into me eating at fast food was the
fact that I traveled a lot as a child since my dad was in the navy, and we
would always go visit family that lived in different states. As luck would have
it, there was always a fast food restaurant so it was quite often the dinner of
choice.
Now fast food plays quite a small roll in my food choice. I
try to make healthy choices and although I do enjoy a greasy hamburger every
once in a while, I prefer a nice home cooked meal I can enjoy with my family.
Not to say that I only eat salads, I still love steaks and chicken wings, but it
can be made much healthier. Also I enjoy the comforts of home much more than a
fast food restaurant, just enjoy that feeling of home while I eat. Another
thing is that at home I can enjoy the peace and quiet serenity of home in
comparison to the noisy cluster of people in fast food restaurants. I don’t
shun fast food because it does help provide food for those who can’t afford
appliances or are even homeless. The down side to fast food though is that it
is extremely unhealthy most the time. To me now I see most fast food as more of
a convenience thing rather than a reward. In all I try to avoid going to fast
food places, but if friends or family decide that they want to go I’ll bite my tongue
and go get a greasy burger.
